Over the course of the last nine months, our club has given away multiple
pairs of running shoes and running tech shirts. Not to mention, the numerous
$30 promo codes given away to Run For Your Life races.
All of this stuff is courtesy of the Run for Your Life’s Team awards
program.
When our members enter the Run for Your Life races and select the
Charlotte Running Club as their desired team, we get a shot at winning these
team awards.
When our team wins, our members win.
We turn these awards around and give them back to our members as
prizes won through our Facebook contents.
The next time that you enter a Run for Your Race and see the team
option make sure to select the Charlotte Running Club team.
And, don’t forget to say “thank you” to the Run for Your Life crew.
For without their effort none of these awards would even be possible.

CRC Guinness WR Tether Team
Our Guinness WR Tether Team continues to grow. We have now pushed over
100 team members.
I am now planning two opportunities for test runs. The first one will
be 10/7/14 at 6:15 PM at the Fleet Feet location in Huntersville. The second
test run will be on 11/1/14 again at the Huntersville Fleet Feet at 2pm. Both
are optional runs and will be used to test out our ideas for connecting our
runners.
There continues to be plenty room on our team so if you are
interested, please email run.charlotte@gmail.com. My goal
is to have 200 runners, but if we have more, we definitely will not turn anyone
away.
CRC/Thunder Road Partnership:
The Thunder Road Race Director and the Charlotte Running Club has reached
an agreement to have a presence at the Thunder Road Marathon activities.
Our club will be represented at the two Thunder Road Preview runs
which take place on 10/18 and 11/1. These cover the first and second halves of
the Thunder Road course.
Our club will be co-branded with Endurance Magazine as the official pacers
of the Thunder Road Marathon. With this
co-branding we will be providing pacers for the marathon.
Our club will have a presence at the Thunder Road Expo on Friday
before the marathon.
Our club will organize and staff a Thunder Road Marathon Cheer Zone at
10 miles.
While this is our club’s first
real partnership with the Thunder Road Marathon, the stepping stone that it
provides now will help us to grow this partnership long into the future.
Interested in pacing for us, just email: run.charlotte@gmail.com.
McMullen Greenway Parking:
If you visit the McMullen Greenway off Rea Rd, don’t park in the “Shops
at the Glen” parking lot. The lots are being monitored and runners are being
towed.
Please use the parking lot adjacent to the greenway or the side street
along the greenway.
Nonprofit Status:
More good news on this front. The IRS called us last week to inform us
that our club’s nonprofit status is being restored, and they would be sending
us a letter stating this fact in the next 4 to 5 weeks. This path to reinstatement
has had many twist and turns plus a whole lot of on the job training. But it
has all been worth it.
Blue Ridge Relay Teams:
I would like to give a shout out to the Blue Ridge Relay teams. From
what I heard conditions were hot and steamy in the mountains with several
runners being put in bad shape.
To my knowledge, there were no serious issues and everyone came home
safely.
Big congrats to our own CRC BRR team for finishing second this year.
All of the teams ran hard and should be proud of their efforts. BRR is
a tough course and only the fittest survive it.
Greater Charlotte Health & Fitness Expo 4 Miler
and Relay:
We have accepted a new challenge for January of ’15 by partnering with
the Greater Charlotte Health & Fitness Expo to produce a 4 mile run and 2
person relay race.
We expect the event to take place at “The Park” off Rt. 74 near Bojangles
Arena. Runners will run a 2 x 2 mile loops. Relay runners will make the
exchange with each running one of the 2 mile loops. There will be both age
group and team awards.
More details to follow as we finalize the permits with the city.
Mileage Program:
I wanted to let everyone know that Audrey has decided to step down as
our Mileage Program Coordinator. Audrey’s
monthly inspirational emails are something that I look forward to reading.
Her inspiration and help will
be sorely missed, but at the same time this opens up the opportunity for some
new in our club to step in to our mileage coordinator position.
Audrey plans to continue her running exploits by coaching children at
the Thompson Children’s Home in Matthews. Let’s send our best luck to her on
this new venture in life.
If you would like to be considered for mileage program coordinate,
please email run.charlotte@gmail.com.
Now for those interested in our August miles, Audrey has tabulated
them for our club and posted it to our CRC website.
Audrey will continue supporting our mileage program through the end of
this year and may be reached at run.charlotte.miles@gmail.com.
Member Status:
CRC’s exposure in the Charlotte running community continues to go. Our
membership level has reached 359 members through the end of September.
Board Meeting Update:
Our Sept Board meeting covered the following topics:
·
Approval of Aug Board Meeting minutes.
·
Treasury Report
·
12 Hour Run/Relay Status check – low numbers
this year possibly of canceling it if number don’t reach a certain level by Wednesday.
Rob will make the go/no go decision on the race.
·
Greater Charlotte Health & Fitness Expo Race
– Mike brief the board on the status and the board approved moving forward CRC
involvement
·

expectations for the club.

their efforts on behalf of CRC for the year ’14. The board approved a free
membership and gift card to Inside Out Sports for each of them.
Wrapping Up:
Back in the middle of summer, we had only a few items listed on our
fall scheduled. How would we ever continue to engage our members with the same
intensity that we established during the spring and summer of this eyar? Our board has continued to produce with numerous
activities now listed on our upcoming events calendar.
Nothing happens without lots of hard work. All of the credit goes to
our great board members and our supporting members for making it happen. To
each of you, I say “THANK YOU”.
I welcome any and all feedback from our members. To contact me, please
use the following email address: run.charlotte@gmail.com. Our board
members monitor this email inbox and usually respond to emails within 24 hours.
Best in Running,
